It's safe to say, we are all ready to put 2020 behind us and look forward to a much better 2021! The pandemic has wreaked havoc on our world in so many ways. From a wellness perspective, obesity and chronic disease are continuing to rise and mental health is suffering. We need OCR back in our lives.
Obstacle Course Racing is so much more than just mud, obstacles, and running. OCR is feeling a powerful sense of accomplishment as you push your body to do more than you thought it was capable of. OCR is motivating others to conquer their fears, struggles, and doubts. OCR is seeing your hours and hours of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication pay off.
So many people have lost so much during this pandemic. It is a truly difficult time that will be talked about throughout history. We need OCR now more than ever. But, we also need to remember that OCR is not just about those few hours spent out on the course on a weekend, it's applying that same determination to life's obstacles as we do on the course. Right now, we have been given one heck of an obstacle and we have to fight back.
Trio Fitness Training designs training programs for obstacle course racing participants. We've worked with athletes of all levels and we've helped hundreds to reach their goals. View our OCR Training Programs and Sign Up today!
Here's how we fight back against Covid from a wellness perspective.
1. Remember your WHY. If your why is to be healthy and set a good example for your kids, then don't sit in front of the TV eating and watching garbage. Make good food choices and go for walks in the fresh air. If your WHY is to be the best athlete, remember that races will be back and your competition isn't slacking. Whatever your why may be, you will feel a million times better if you keep working toward it rather than letting these obstacles conquer you.
2. Interact with people who have similar goals. You can get a group together to do virtual workouts over Zoom. Try looking for an OCR Facebook group to learn and share training tips, talk about struggles, and motivate each other. You may also have a positive impact on someone else's life without even realizing it.
3. Accept our new reality. Right now, gym access may be limited, races may get cancelled or rescheduled but you have to accept that this is how things are. Once you've accepted it, then look at how you will adapt and work through it. Always remember that every good choice you make (even small ones) will make a big difference in the long run.
Let's work together as a community and hold each other accountable through encouragement. If you see someone struggling, lift them up.
Feel free to reach out if you need encouragement or help with OCR workout ideas that can be done with limited or no equipment.
