If you don't know how much time you spend on each Zone at a Deka event (whether it be a DekaFit, Deka Mile, Deka Strong, or Deka Atlas), then this article is for you. It's important to find out specifically which Zones you struggle with the most, where the easiest opportunities are to make up time, and how your training can address your strengths and weaknesses. Let's break down your DekaFit performance.
Step 1: Film your race.
Obviously YOU can't film it, but pass your phone off to someone else and have them film your race. You need the footage in order to both evaluate your form and determine how much time is spent in each Zone and in transition between Zones.
Join the Deka Dominator program and challenge yourself to reach new heights and smash your Personal Records! The workouts will push you to your limits, but the results will be worth it! You will build your skill on each Deka Zone, as well as improve your running, with 4 weekly workouts all tailored toward DekaFit events. Click the title to learn more and sign up.

Step 2: Watch your race footage and do the math.
You can either find out how long each Zone took you to complete by looking at the time on the recording at the start and finish of each Zone and doing the math, or you can start a separate timer and determine how much time you spent in each Zone. Either way, it's a very simple process.
You can also count the transition time separately between each Zone. Because each race layout is slightly different from venue to venue, these transition times may change based on the distance between Zones or the way they are organized at an event. You don't have control over the distances or placements of the Zones, you only have control of how much effort you put into having a quick transition.

Step 3: Keep a log.
Now that you know how long each Zone took you to complete at one race, film your next race and write down the times again. Continue to do this for each race. You'll be able to easily see trends in your strengths and weaknesses, where your race may have fallen off the rails, or how better pacing might improve your overall time.

It's essential that you put the time, effort, and consistency into your training for continued progress, but doing a break down of your event will help you, or your coach, better program the training.
