Want To Do Well At Hyrox? Focus On The Right Things.

If you post on social media and ask, "How do I train for my first Hyrox?", you'll get so many answers, that are so varied in nature, and based upon the experience of each individual commenting, and after you've read all of them, you still won't have any idea what to do.

If you want to do well at your first Hyrox you need to first know what is included in the race. There are 8 different stations, and 8K of running. Can you run 8KM? Can you push a several-hundred-pound sled? Can you do 100 Wall Balls? Have you ever used a Rower or Ski Erg? How many Burpee Broad Jumps have you done in your life?
If you can't run 8KM, you need to start running now. It doesn't matter how far you can run at this moment, you just need to start running. If running for 15 minutes is all you can handle today, then run 15 minutes. Do that a few more times over a few weeks, and then try to run for 17, 18, 19, or 20 minutes. Keep gradually progressing your running length and frequency over time.
If you do not train for running, Hyrox will be a miserable, long event for you.
Find out which Stations (exercises) you struggle with the most, and start working on them now. If you've never used a Ski Erg, you need to start working on a Ski Erg. If you've never pushed a Sled before, start pushing a sled.

Now, grab a piece of paper and a pen, and write down the top 3 things you know that you struggle with in relation to Hyrox. Those should be the main focus for your training program.
Now, write down the next 3 things you struggle with most, and those should be things that get attention during your training program, but aren't the main focus.
From there, the only choice you have to improve is consistently working on the things you wrote down. How to break them down, how to structure it, what to do on each day, and so on is a much more complicated thing, and that's where 95% of you will need to find answers outside yourself. You can look for answers all over the internet, but my recommendation would be to find someone who knows how to program training properly, and who has experience with the specific event for which you are training; Hyrox.

Good luck with your training! We hope your first Hyrox, and all of the subsequent ones, are great experiences filled with fun and fitness!
